Really important imformation!

As you may have read in the newspaper, the State Legislature is currently considering a budget for 2009-2010 which includes some serious cuts for public libraries. Whether or not you approve of governments paying for things like libraries, the fact remains that without that support most libraries in this county would not exist. Many county libraries have tried very hard with limited resources to keep up with the times. We've added automated systems to speed up service and help us to do a better job of developing our collections. We've provided free computer access for those citizens who cannot afford the luxury of a home computer. And we've provided opportunities in the form of programs concerning educational, financial, and health related issues that are of interest to our patrons. We really need your help to keep libraries alive. Please contact your State Senator or State Representative and tell them they need to search harder to find a way of balancing the budget without destroying library service in Pennsylvania! If you need further information on this important topic please call the library at 874-3382 or use our contact page.

On a string...

We have a new program planned for this summer's reading program. Since the theme is Be Creative @ Your Library, we'll be exploring the visual and performing arts at Storytime and Adventures with Books.  But for the first time, we'll have summer activities for kids from 9 to 12 years old. The program is called Puppetmasters, and it will be held every Thursday from 1-3 pm. Each week , participants will work on creating a puppet theater play which will be performed at the library later in the summer. We'll learn about the history of puppets as we make them, create scenery and props, and develop a story to tell. Kids can come as often as they like, but attendance every week will not be required. Call 874-3382 for details or use our contact page at www.frackvillelibrary.com.

Please, Mr. Postman...

We are busily preparing the  mailing for our annual fund drive which will be starting soon. As you know, the library has few sources of making money for itself . We collect a few fees and have some fundraisers, but mostly we depend on the state, county, borough, and school district to keep us running. These funds are getting increasingly scarce, and so we are counting on our patrons and others in the community who think our presence is worthwhile to help out as much as they can with  a yearly donation. Please read our letter carefully and consider giving what you can to a community institution which has been serving the residents of Frackville for almost 70 years! Thanks in advance for your support.

Ch..Ch..Ch..Changes!

I apologize for my lack of posts lately, but a lot has been going on at the library. To fill you in, we recently scrapped our old oil furnace and are now being heated and cooled by a new heat pump system which promises not only to be more comfortable, but should also save us money!  We also have begun a few changes to our layout, removing unused books to a behind the scenes location so that we can feature our more popular items out front where you can find them.  Come see us and let us know what you think!
