Golden Tickets Now Available!

Our 3rd Annual Golden Ticket Dinner is set for Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2PM. It will once again be held at the Fountain Springs Country Inn,. For a donation of $125, attendees will receive a delicious dinner for two, wine or beer, and a chance to win our grand prize of $2500! A fun afternoon with friends and neighbors and a great way to help the library. As you probably know, 2009 was a tough one for libraries. Reductions in funds on both the municipal and state levels make local fundraising more important than ever. Please consider using a part of your charitable giving budget for this event . Information and tickets are available at the library . Call 874-3382 or use our contact page at www.frackvillelibrary.com.

Half-Blood Prince Arrives Soon!

If you're still a Harry Potter fan like me, you're anxiously awaiting the arrival of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince DVD. It's already on order and should arrive right around the time of the release. This 6th film in the series was one of the best in my opinion. A bit of artistic license was taken by the director, but a lot of the book was included. If you haven't seen it, or just want to see it again, it will be on loan soon!

Thanks to all!

We had a great evening at the library's birthday bash last week! All the guests were fascinated by the 1939 vintage film we were showing on our new TV, part of the Senior Spaces grant. Senator Argall presented us with a Pennsylvania flag and we enjoyed a delicious cake. Thanks to all who attended to help us share memories of our first 70 years.

Just finished reading...

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. Not long before his death from cancer, Stieg Larsson gave three completed manuscripts to a publisher. The first of these, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, is a masterfully written thriller and introduces two unforgettable characters, Michael Blomkvist, a journalist with a keen sense of a good story and an eye for the ladies, and Lisbeth Salander, the girl of the title, a computer genius. In this novel, Blomkvist tries to solve the mystery of a missing girl while recovering from the consequences of a libel case. The book, which takes place in modern day Sweden, is fast-paced and keeps the reader guessing. The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second in the series is also available here at the library.

Join our Adult Readers Group

On Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 7pm our Adult Readers Group will be meeting at the library to discuss The Light in the Forest by Conrad Richter. Although Richter left his birthplace, Pine Grove, PA, as a young man, he returned to Pennsylvania in his fiction. This novel tells the story of a 15 year-old white boy captured and raised by the Lenni Lenape Indians, who is chosen to be returned to his family. In 1951, Richter won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel, The Town and is regarded as a significant figure in American fiction. The Adult Readers have been discussing books for over six years. They include all types of literature in their program and meet monthly. Call 874-3382 for more information or use our contact page at www.frackvillelibrary.com.
