Don't forget that the library is participating in the Bon-Ton's Community Day Event this year. We are now selling coupon books which can be used at the store in the Schuylkill Mall on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007. The books cost $5 each (the library gets to keep this money). In the book is a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $10 or more, so you get your money plus $5 more back in merchandise. Start you Christmas shopping with a discount and help your library too!

by Barbara Pym. You've probably never heard of Barbara Pym. She's one of those lost gems, a writer who has been praised by critics, but is no longer read very much. She's sort of a 20th century Jane Austen-her novels are concerned with little groups of people in a neighborhood which she captures in detail. Perfect if you like romance and nostalgia. The library has several of her novels.
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. If you don't have a card, you can sign up today for free. All we need is an ID with your current address on it. This card will enable you to use all of the resources the library provides-books, computer access, videos and dvds, and more. If you haven't visited us for awhile, take a minute this month and stop in. We'd love to have you as a patron!
Our latest book display at the library is devoted to some of our favorite ladies. From Jane Austen's Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice
to the urban adventures of McLaughlin and Kraus's The Nanny Diaries
, heroines of all ages and eras abound on our shelves. We've picked some that we like and we'd love to hear about some of your favorites. Reply to this post or use our contact page to tell us the heroines you've enjoyed. We might even add them to our display!
Thanks to all who visited us at the Frackville Car Show on Labor Day at our cold drink stand! We had a great time. Our next fund raising effort will be as a part of the annual Community Day Event sponsored by the Bon-Ton at the Schuylkill Mall. We now have available coupon booklets for $5.00. These booklets contain a savings certificate for $10.00 with a purchase of $10.00 or more, so you immediately get your money back plus $5.00 when you shop at the Bon-Ton on Saturday, November 10, 2007. The proceeds from sales of the booklets go directly to the library, so you can give a donation and save money at the same time!
We now have a CD featuring local musical groups and soloists for sale. Where the Coal Trains Load: World Music from Eastern Pennsylvania
has thirty-one selections of ethnic music recorded in Schuylkill County. These songs, captured on the CD by Michael and Carrie Nobel Kline, explore the diversity of folk cultures which can be found in our county. They range from Italian, Irish, and Eastern Europen classics to Indian tabla drumming and a Chinese song in Mandarin. This CD is definitely a collector's item. You can buy it now at the library for only $20. Part of the proceeds will go to the library's General Fund.
