As California's first public library (established in 1849) Monterey's library has a longstanding commitment to seeing to it that library services and resources are here for future generations, as they have been for 162 years.
In recent weeks, the Library received $25,000 for endowment building efforts from the Communities Advancing the Arts Fund of the Community Foundation for Monterey County. The challenge grant was made possible through the generous support of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
This is an important milestone. We still have a long way to go to build a multi-million dollar endowment, but we are seeing lots of progress! Congratulations to the Endowment Committee and staff who are working with them, Also, a huge thanks to donors, the Community Foundation, and everyone else who has contributed so much to this effort!
