Brits for Literacy and Libraries
It isn’t only American libraries that are facing challenges. In Great Britain over 400 libraries face closure as government seeks to reduce spending. This inspired a day of protest across the UK to campaign against the plan.
According to BBC News, rallies, flashmob readings, storytelling, and sit-ins have been joined by readers, library supporters, authors, and other concerned citizens. Jonathan Douglas, director of the National Literacy Trust supported the “Save Our Libraries Day” urging everyone to stand up for the “importance of literacy and libraries.” Read all about it.
