Kids Succeed by Reading
The Library’s annual Summer Reading Program wrapped up on July 25 after eight weeks of activities designed to keep kids reading during the school break. Studies show that kids who don’t read over the summer lose some of their reading ability and return to school in “catch up” mode. This summer, over 500 children recorded that they read approximately 10,000 books, and sixty-three of them participated through the Bookmobile. Until next summer rolls around, the Library continues its regular schedule of storytimes for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers to ensure that students in the years to come have a head start on their reading and language skills.
