Here's a picture of the house on the southwest corner of the lot being torn down yesterday. This is the final house that will be demolished.
The three houses on Linn Street (the northwest part of the block) will remain.
The new library's floor is being poured Thursday and Friday!! Lots of concrete. The slab is 4 inches thick and includes fiber mesh within the concrete for support and stability.
The concrete is to be covered by a concrete blanket which has an insulation value of R6.
From the progress meeting yesterday, we are told that after the concrete slab has sufficiently cured and after the steel supports are delivered, we will "go vertical" sometime in December.
Here's another picture of the cement floor from Monday.
Carole stopped by the site on Monday, and took this picture of the floor slab's cement being smoothed. The area in this picture is what will be the book return room, on the north side of the building.
Now, if you go past, the floor slab has been covered by yellow concrete blankets that insulate and retain moisture so that the cement can properly cure.
Jamie just stopped in and let us know that they're currently working on the underground rough-in. They're placing
conduit and pipe in the subgrade beneath the slab for the
electrical and waste systems. After the pipe work is complete, they'll continue adding grade and sub-grade.
The
floor slabs will start going down next week.
