Meet our Project Superintendent!

Jamie Rochleau of Story Construction is our Project Superintendent (or "Construction Manager") for the new library building.  You may have seen him around the library, as he currently has an office set up in the basement.

According to his company bio, Jamie has a solid background in the many aspects of a construction project, whether in the field or in the office.  He started his career as an estimator with Morton Buildings, Inc.  In addition to his estimating duties, he performed design work as well as project coordination.  With a desire to return to Iowa (he's a native of Algona), he went on to work for a general construction firm as a project manager/estimator, completing a number of multi-million dollar building projects.  In 2000, he joined Story Construction Co. as a project engineer and was promoted to project superintendent in 2001.

Some of the projects he's worked on:

Community Recreation Center (Story City, IA)
Ames Racquet & Fitness Center North (Ames, IA)
ISU Foundation Advancement Center renovation (Ames, IA)
Bliss Cancer Center (Webster City, IA)
Northeast Elementary School (Ankeny, IA)

Houses Purchased & Paving Starting
Two more houses on the library block have been purchased:

109 W. Boone
212 S. 2nd St

The houses will be demolished in October, and the space gained will be used as 12 extra parking spaces.  In the southwest corner of the block, these will probably be designated for staff parking.

In other news, the utility work is now complete.

Paving of sidewalks, curbs, and the parking lot will begin next week.  Seem early to you?  They're doing it now to eliminate the run-off that happens on the site when it rains.

Site Progress

The builders are currently preparing a flat pad on the site to receive the foundation of the building.  If you go past the site, you can tell how large the building will be by the size of the flattened surface!

They are also working to re-route the electrical and phone lines this week.

Concrete work will begin next week, if weather permits.
