East Entrance & Cafe

You may recall that the new building will have two entrances -- the main one on the south side, and another on the east side.  The east entrance is featured in this picture, and you can also see the cafe's wall of windows sticking out to the right side.

In the foreground, note the sandbags that used to hold down the protective blanket over the floor slab.  The floor slab has been uncovered, now that the building is almost enclosed.

Temporary Heat Ready to Go

As the new library is enclosed, temporary heat will be used to melt the ice on the floor slab.  This picture shows a propane tank being readied to deliver the heat.

It looks like a construction site again!

The library construction crew is working to enclose the new library building in the next couple of weeks!  Once the building is enclosed, temporary heat will be used to thaw the slab floor so that insulating blankets can be removed and the remaining ice and snow can be cleared away.  After the interior is dry and ice-free, framing of the library's interior can proceed.

Many of the project components (light poles, Lennox heating and air-conditioning units, etc.) have already been transported to Marshalltown.  They will be ready to go as the building becomes ready to receive them.

Working Between Snowstorms

Carpenters worked Saturday, March 1st, sheathing exterior walls of the new library.  The old adage "make hay while the sun shines" has been the theme in February, only most days, the sun did not shine!   We are hoping that March holds better weather for construction so that work can progress without further delays.
