The Weight of Heaven by Thrity Umrigar. When Frank and Ellie Benton lose their seven-year-old son, Benny, to an unexpected illness, their marriage begins to unravel. In order to try and save the relationship, Ellie talks her husband into taking a transfer to a manufacturing plant in a small town near Mumbai, India. The change of scene seems to offer some comfort to Ellie; that is, until her husband becomes obsessed with Ramesh, the young son of their domestic help. Umrigar's lovely prose coupled with a page-turning ending definitely makes the book worth reading, even if you are not interested in Indian culture.
