Twas the Night Before...

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Originally by Clement Clarke Moore
or Henry Livingston, Adapted here by S. Epstein

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the ‘brary

Not a creature was stirring, not eight legged and hairy;

The books were all shelved in the stacks with care;

Waiting for patrons who soon would be there;

The children’s room toys were all put away,

Ready for children to come out to play;

And Librarians in 'kerchiefs, and Volunteers in caps,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

We all had to look to see what was the matter.

Away to the window we flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The rain on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the luster of glass to objects below.

When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,

But a book drop brimming like a chubby reindeer.

With the book drop full with books little and thick,

We knew in a moment, this would not be quick!

But we vowed to check in, till the very last one,

Until no scans, remained and all was done.

Come Friday morning, we’ll scan and we’ll check,

 Books, magazines, dvds and cassettes,

Video, kits, and music and more!

To the scanner we’ll fly, with no more time to snore.

You’re patience we’ll appreciate as we tackle this quest,

But, we assure you, we will do our best.

Until then, however, as you make your drops,

Pause for a second, on this errand stop…

The ghosts of Librarians’ may be heard in wind,

But you must be quiet, and listen, my friend

You may hear them exclaim, ere you drive out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."
