Our Books Go Far

Going on vacation this summer? Take us with you! Or rather take our books with you.

Send the Milford-Miami Township Branch a postcard from where you traveled, including a note of what book you read on vacation.  Bring the picture holding the library book at your vacation spot to the branch.  Each person who sends us a postcard or brings in a photo will be entered in a drawing to win a prize.  Postcards and photos will be displayed in the Milford-Miami Township Branch.

Visit the library for instructions.

Safe travels!

Heads Up!

Don't say we didn't warn you -- summer is right around the corner. No reason for you to claim you didn't know Summer Reading was coming. The first part of the name gives it away. It's not Winter Reading or Autumn Reading; it's SUMMER Reading... And it's comimg! June 6 - August 1, 2009. Look for signups at your local branch to start sometime in early June. I know, I know, you want to sign up right now, but hold your horses! We're not quite ready yet. Still putting on the finishing touches to make this one of the best summer reading programs yet!

APRIL 29, 2009
Oh, spring, where art thou?

What in the name of 80-degree weather happened to spring? Cincinnati weather, that's what happened. We all knew it was coming. The weather in the midwest is more unstable than my Aunt Millie when she goes off her medication...

We still have a few more weeks of unpredictable weather before the rain ceases to pour every time we think about heading to the park or before we can open the pools. In the meantime, check out some of our library programs. Not only will they be fun and educational, but depending on the weather, the library will either shelter you from the relentless downpour or air condition your impending heat stroke.

Stop by, say hi and while you're at it take some books home with you!

In Like a Lion...

...out like a lamb. Spring is definitely here! Today's weather feels like a cruel joke after the beautiful weekend. But as the cliched saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers." Instead of dreading the rain and thunderstorms, let's look for ways to take advantage of the changing seasons. The library is offering several 'earth-friendly' programs:

Hosta: The Gift from Asia, Tuesday, April 14
Union Township Branch, call 528-1744 or visit to register
Adults, 7:30-8:30 pm
Adults are invited to a slide show and discussion of the history of this fascinating plant with Connie Booth from the Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati. Discover methods of propagation and what's new on the horizon in this area of gardening.

Family Fun Night, Monday, April 20
Goshen Branch, call 722-1221 or visit to register
Kids, 7:00-8:00 pm
Families are invited for stories, crafts, hands-on-activities, and playing. Children must be accompanied by a parent.

Plant Exchange, during the month of May
New Richmond & Goshen Branch
During the month of May bring a plant from your garden and exchange it for another plant. Please bring your plant in a pot or container. Be sure to label the plant with name and any other useful information to share. Available during library hours.

Changing Seasons

Ohio weather -- it giveth and it taketh away... Only in Ohio can the weather be warm, breezy and beautiful one day and overcast, gloomy and chilly the next. They say if you can't beat 'em, join 'em - so that's exactly what we're doing. We're preparing for all that impending spring rain with Rain Gardens & Rain Barrels: Learning the Basics.

The program is being presented by Paul Barringer of the Clermont County Soil & Water Conservation District. Learn how to utilize and conserve the rainfall to transform your yard into a rain garden. There will be an answer and question session after the presentation.

New Richmond Branch Tuesday, March 17 @ 7:00 pm. Call 513-553-0570 or visit the branch to register.

APRIL 5, 2007
Milford-Miami Twp. Branch to Close for Repairs
On Monday, April 30, 2007 the Milford-Miami Township Branch of the Clermont County Public Library (CCPL) will close for one month to repair the damage caused by a water pipe breaking in February of this year. The branch is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, May 31. Library Operations Coordinator, Dave Mezack, says that during the month of May, the carpet and flooring throughout the building will be replaced to prevent the spread of mold and mildew. Some walls in the area of the water damage will have to be repaired and repainted. The Library was fully covered by insurance for the water damage.

“I know this seems a long time for the branch to be closed,” says Leslie Massey the director of CCPL, “but the repair process requires the Library to remove 150,000 items in the library collection, shelving, furniture, computers and workroom items in order to replace and repair carpeting and flooring, and then it must all be moved back in and put back into order before the branch can re-open.”

While the Milford-Miami Township Branch is closed the drop boxes will remain open and emptied daily. All Milford-Miami Township Schools have been notified of the branch closing so that teachers can request special collections of books and materials for use in their classrooms during the month of May. These collections must be picked up by the end of April; and anyone interested in having such a collection should contact the Milford-Miami Township Branch at 248-0700.

Customers are being encouraged to visit nearby branches in Union Township at 4462 Mt. Carmel-Tobasco Rd, Cincinnati (513-528-1744), Goshen at 6678 State Route 132 (513-722-1221) and Owensville at 2548 U.S. Route 50 (513-732-6084).

Those with questions regarding closing and repair work to be done at the Milford-Miami Township Branch may call (513) 732-2736 or visit the website for updates: www.clermontlibrary.org.
