I recently read
Tithe,
Valiant, and
Ironside by Holly Black and really enjoyed the series. Although V
aliant was not exactly a sequel to
Tithe both books had characters in common. Both
Tithe and
Valiant directly relate to
Ironside, the final book. To get the full effect it is best to read all three.
In Tithe, the main character Kaye, discovers she is a faerie with a quest to fulfill. Along the way, she meets Roiben, but will he be friend or foe? In the next book Valiant, 17-year-old Valerie Russell ends up getting mixed up in some faerie business when she runs away to New York City. This book has new characters from the first book, but Roiben does make an appearance in the end. In the third book, Ironside, the reader sees the characters from the first book and the second book. Will Roiben and Kaye work out their differences? Will good triumph over evil in Faerie? One of the things I enjoyed most about this series was the way in which the author wove in the modern world with Faerie. I also liked the way the characters and stories of Tithe and Valiant came together in the third book Ironside.
More recently I read
White Cat (Curse Workers Series #1). The world in which Cassel lives is populated by some people who can curse others merely by touching another person with their bare hand. As a result, everyone in this society wears gloves for protection. Cassel comes from a family of curse workers and believes without a doubt that he does not have that ability. He is, however, a master con artist. As he delves into a con to get back into school after having been suspended, he starts discovering things about his family, himself, and what really happened to his friend, Lila.
I have just started the second book in the Curse Workers Series,
Red Glove. Right at the beginning in
Red Glove Cassel is being recruited by the FBI and a crime boss! I am curious to find out what he will decide.
