Artists, designers, and crafters—is Etsy right for you? Etsy is changing rapidly. It is returning to its roots as a marketplace for items designed, made, and sourced by real people. They are also positioning Etsy as THE go-to place for unique gifts. Join local mixed media artist Karen Koch for an introductory class on the Etsy Marketplace at the library.

Running an Etsy shop is more difficult than in the past. It requires more time, more planning, and more ongoing effort. Hobbyist creatives who want to list their creations on Etsy to make a little side money are finding it harder to sell their items and have a satisfying experience. Shop owners spend more time on photography, search engine optimization, and marketing than ever before. Topics that will be covered during this introductory class include: requirements to open an Etsy shop, items that can/cannot be sold on Etsy, and the pros and cons of managing an Etsy shop. This program is generously funded by the Burton D. Morgan Foundation.

This introductory class will be taught by instructor Karen Koch, a local mixed media artist who has extensive experience with using Etsy to sell and promote her art. Karen studied studio art and majored in drawing at Denison University.  Her studio, Life Needs Art, located in Hudson, features modern art inspired by nature and nostalgia.
