April endings and May beginnings

The month of April is winding down and with its end also signifying the end of 2 opportunities.  This first is the opportunity to  take the library survey and offer us information to help the library in its future planning.  I can't stress enough how important it is to have this survey filled out.  The survey is brief, but will be giving us a lot of information.  Please take the time and fill out the survey.

The second opportunity ending is for youth 10 and under.  This being the Culver's draw a picture program.  All entries are due back at the Library by 8 p.m. on April 30th.  We have received some really creative pictures already and it would be great to have the windows full of pictures.

With May comes some new beginnings. The Library will be installing a new computer island for 6 of its public computers.  The Library is upgrading the memory on its public access computers to 1 GB, which should speed up the computers.  We have also added Office 07 on 2 of the public computers.  Office 07 includes Word, Power Point, Excel and Publisher.  With these changes, the public should enjoy using the public computers more.

Other new things happening in May are improvements to the Library grounds.  The Friends have adopted the flower bed on the corner of Main and Park Streets.  They plan to plant a flower bed by the new library sign.  They will also be maintaining this corner. The library hopes to being work on Mel's Garden, which is the area around the community sign.  Once this is planted, we are will be looking for a volunteer to maintain it.  We also are looking for someone to maintain the plantings done at the corner of Main and Oak Street.  if you are interested in helping maintain these plantings, let us know.

May will also be the beginning of sign up for a summer of creativity at the Library.  Starting May 18th, people of all ages can sign up for the Library's summer reading programs.  Our theme is "Be creative @your library!"  We will have programs for all ages, including a Day Camp for youth in Grades 3-6.  The camp should be a great opportunity for youth to be creative in a variety of ways.  We have already signed up Chris Havel to teach a session on writing and newspapers.  We may have a session on scrapbooking, dancing, musical instruments, and other creative ventures.  Watch for the summer brochure, which will be coming out in May.

Enjoy the rainy April weather as everybody knows April showers bring---May Flowers!
