Do you need some time to catch your breath, relax and ponder the the wonder of holiday season? Bring your sack lunch, or coffee to the Washington County Free Public Library on Wednesday, December 15 from 12:15 to 12:45p.m. for our next FREE noon hour concert: "Christmas in Word and Song." This concert features of two of the arts - music and poetry, in our beautiful library setting overlooking central part in Washington, Iowa. We are joined by three talented artists: Vocal soloist: Millie Youngquist is a Washington native. She received a B.A. in music from Coe College; and an M.A. in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa. This talented vocal soloist currently teaches 7-12 vocal music at WACO Community Schools where she is in her 33rd year. She also served as choir director at the United Presbyterian Church for 34 years. Millie is active in PEO, AAUW and the Iowa Choral Directors Association. She will be performing "The Christmas Carols of Alfred Burt." Pianist: Virginia Bordwell grew up in Sioux City and began piano lessons almost 58 years ago. She has been accompanying since she auditioned in 7th grade. She also enjoys community theater work. Her favorite role is rehearsal pianist and keyboard player in the pit. At present, She is the organist at the UP Church, having served as church organist--first at First Baptist and then the United Presbyterian Church for the past 25 years. Virginia will be playing the library's Steinway Grand Piano. Poetry: Patrick Finney received his B.A. in History, Philosphy and Religion from Truman State University; and a M.A. in Library Science and Information from the University of Iowa. He currently serves as Director the Washington Free Public Library. Patrick will read a variety of seasonal poetry which wonderfully marries two of our favorite arts: poetry and music!
