Library One of "40 Galileos"

In recognition of the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first use of a telescope, the Cincinnati Observatory has established a bold program called the 40 Galileos: Starry Messenger Project, in which they are giving away 40 Orion 8" Dobsonian telescopes to individuals and organizations.  The Batesville Memorial Public Library was fortunate to be one of the final 40, out of 145 total applicants, who will be given a telescope on September 11, 2009.  As finalists in this project, a representative from the library must attend two training sessions at the observatory, and conduct and report on two public programs with a telescope.  Stay tuned for announcements on those upcoming programs.  We are very excited about this program and have started planning what we will do with the telescope once it has been given to us.  Watch for a "Name the Telescope" contest in the near future!
