Join Janet Mandel to learn about the Italian painter and architect Raphael. He became one of the defining figures of the High Renaissance — revered for his grace, harmony, and masterful balance of beauty and structure. His lyrical use of form, color, and composition not only defined an era but continues to shape our understanding of artistic perfection. The Metropolitan Museum of Art will exhibit more than 200 of his drawings, paintings, tapestries, and decorative works from March 29 to June 28, 2026, and this presentation will be a unique window into Raphael’s creative process and the depth of his artistic thinking.

Join Professor Alexander Clemente to explore the remarkable transformation of ancient Athens from a society ruled by tyrants and aristocrats to the world's first democracy. This lecture traces the key reforms and political struggles that empowered ordinary citizens, from the laws of Solon to the innovations of Cleisthenes. Discover how the Athenians, through radical civic engagement, established a government "by the people" that continues to inspire and inform political thought today.

 REGISTER HERE

Hold onto your heart-patterned boxers! Matt Dinniman, New York Times bestselling author of the wildly popular (and just plain wild) Dungeon Crawler Carl series, joins us to chat about his latest book, A Parade of Horribles.

As chaos and mass panic spread outside the dungeon in the wake of Faction Wars, Carl and Donut find themselves on the tenth floor, where they’re forced to compete in a surprisingly normal set of tasks. Well, normal for the dungeon.

Races. Get from point A to point B, and don’t come in last. After each race, they pick an upgrade for their vehicle and the track gets more challenging. It all seems a little too normal, a little too simple.

Ignore those strange glitches that are occurring with increasing frequency. Don’t listen to those whispers about what’s happening on the mysterious eleventh floor, something the system AI calls A Parade of Horribles. Nobody, not even the showrunners, knows what that means. Just that the AI has ominously dubbed it “a coming-out party for the ages.”

Everything is fine, Crawler. I repeat, everything is fine.

Carl hates that it’s business as usual. The rules of this floor have taken away his agency. That just will not do.

So Carl is planning a party of his own. It’s a plan so dangerous, so insane, he can’t even consult his friends lest the AI put a stop to it. Because if it goes wrong, it’s not just the end of Carl and Donut. No. The stakes are higher than they’ve ever been.

This heartfelt book highlights his journey to bring together the stories and wisdom of grandfathers from all walks of life—all with a mission to nurture the next great generation.

When author Ted Page found out he was going to be a grandpa, he did a web search to learn more about the experience in store for him, but all he could find were references to the movie Bad Grandpa. He couldn’t help but wonder, “Where are the good ones?” Page started a blog, GoodGrandpa.com, and set out to talk with grandfathers across a diverse spectrum. This included an NFL pro athlete, a priest, a rabbi, an imam, newsman Tom Brokaw, comedy legend John Cleese, Chinese and Indians, physicians adapting to disability, an air force general, a Vietnam combat vet, and many more—plus his Aunt Lois and the Dalai Lama, because why not?

Along the way, Page delved into family histories—his own and those of the grandpas he interviewed—to reveal fascinating stories and lessons for living a good life. In every conversation he asked grandpas for their number one most important piece of wisdom—one thing that could help our grandchildren grow to become the greatest generation of all time. Would the collective wisdom Page gathered turn out to be one singular idea, or a constellation of north stars that illuminate a path toward a better future? A unified and unforgettable picture does in fact emerge.

Good Grandpa is inspiring, uplifting, evocative, and filled with genuine emotion. It is a recipe of hope for a divided America, and the book that will be on every grandparent’s reading list.

This lecture will explore Spartan diplomacy and its role in the Peloponnesian League, alongside the rigorous agoge and pervasive military culture that shaped every citizen's life. Can they heal the jagged edges of a traumatic childhood? Is the cost of telling the story worth the price of the cure?

With her signature blend of sophistication and raw honesty, Grande interrogates how living between two nations, two languages, and two identities has shaped the woman, mother, and writer she has become. Moving from the legacy of violence in her hometown of Iguala, Mexico, to a bittersweet family vacation in Europe spent reconciling her own impoverished past with her children’s world of abundance, she uncovers startling truths about the nature of survival.

Register today for this virtual talk if you identify as a seeker, a dreamer, or “anyone who believes in the enduring, transformative power of finding one’s voice.”

Join Janet Mandel to learn about the Nabis, a group of artists whose spiritual, emotional and aesthetic inspiration came from Paul Gauguin and the Symbolist poets. They had one foot in the 19th Century and one foot in the 20th , and although they are not as famous as the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, their work was just as innovative and original. Come explore what stirred The Nabis to create works with expressive and transcendent connections to the divine in nature.

 REGISTER HERE

Join us in virtual conversation with bestselling author Dr. Marisa Franco, one of the world’s leading experts in human connection. Her book, Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make–And Keep–Friends, explores the science of different attachment styles and how they impact our relationships–often in ways we don’t realize!

How do we make and keep friends in an era of distraction, burnout, and chaos, especially in a society that often prizes romantic love at the expense of other relationships? In Platonic, Dr. Marisa G. Franco unpacks the latest, often counterintuitive findings about the bonds between us—for example, why your friends aren’t texting you back (it’s not because they hate you!), and the myth of “friendships happening organically” (making friends, like cultivating any relationship, requires effort!). As Dr. Franco explains, to make and keep friends you must understand your attachment style—secure, anxious, or avoidant: it is the key to unlocking what’s working (and what’s failing) in your friendships.

Making new friends, and deepening longstanding relationships, is possible at any age—in fact, it’s essential. The good news: there are specific, research-based ways to improve the number and quality of your connections using the insights of attachment theory and the latest scientific research on friendship. Platonic provides a clear and actionable blueprint for forging strong, lasting connections with others—and for becoming our happiest, most fulfilled selves in the process.

Register today to learn more about how to harness the science of human connection to create cultures of belonging.

We all know the story of the Revolutionary War, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war
was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was
understood, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings
such as Emanuel Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware, John Trumbull’s Declaration of Independence, and
Asher Durand’s The Capture of Major André.
Presented by Mallory Mortillaro, an art historian and educator who has a decade of teaching experience and has worked on various art research projects for museums and organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Her discoveries in the art world have garnered her international attention. She studied at Drew University. Mallory resides in New Jersey with her husband and daughter.

The remarkable career of Henri Matisse, one of the most influential artists of the Twentieth Century, fundamentally altered the course of modern art. Spanning six and a half decades, his vast creative output encompassed painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic arts, and paper cutouts. His friend and sometime rival Pablo Picasso once said,” All things considered, there is only Matisse.”

Immerse yourself in history celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States as Carol Simon Levin portrays Catharine “Caty” Greene, the indomitable wife of Nathanael Greene, one of Gen. George Washington’s most valued officers and good friend to many other revolutionary notables.
Caty spent much of the war joining her husband and the other officers as they moved from one battlefront to another (many in New Jersey. She bunked locally with Lord Stirling for a while and attended fireworks festivities in Pluckemin.) Known as a witty raconteur, she enlivened the spirits of officers and troops alike as the war ranged from New Jersey to South Carolina, famously dancing for 3 hours straight with George Washington. Her wit, pluck and courage carried her through both victories and setbacks not only during the war but throughout a remarkable life full of resilience and reinvention.

Join us for a cello concert celebrating our country! Alex Prizgintas, an author, musician, historian, and preservationist will share music that has shaped American democracy.
From the nation’s founding onward, the freedoms of speech and religion have formed a cornerstone of civic life. This program examines how patriotism, praise (faith), and protest have worked together as vital forces within American culture. Through key hymns, noble anthems of patriotism, and songs of solidarity and resistance, Alex reveals how music has given voice to belief, dissent, unity, and change.
Blending historical insight with live cello performance, America: Songs of Patriotism, Praise, & Protest highlights how these musical traditions reflect our differences—and how those differences have helped form a stronger, more resilient democracy.
In 1780 Morristown, two young people from vastly different backgrounds met. Their romance is now a key note in a major musical, but each changed the United States in their own particular way. For the first lecture in our series, join Pat Sanftner, State America 250 Chair for the NJ Society Daughters of the American Revolution, to learn the true story of Alexander Hamilton, Elizabeth Schuyler, and Morristown and how their unlikely romance changed America.

Join historian Greg Caggiano for a look at the "other side" of history. As a seasoned paranormal investigator, Greg has always been interested in things that go bump in the night at historic sites in New Jersey. He has served on two museum boards over the years, and both museums were haunted! Profiled in this presentation will be a Royal Governor's former residence, a Victorian mansion, a house with Revolutionary War notoriety, and a creepy cemetery. And what would a Halloween-themed talk be without a visit from the Jersey Devil? History and myth intertwine in this spooky program.

About the Presenter: Greg Caggiano is an award-winning historian, lecturer, author, and consultant. He holds a degree in history from New Jersey City University and NJ State teaching certifications in history and elementary education. Since 2014, he has lectured as an instructor for Brookdale Community College in their Lifelong Learning department. In 2022, Greg was given the Invitational Lecture Grant Award by their Friends group for his presentation titled "Ernest Shackleton and the Age of Antarctic Exploration". He has also worked many years as a field guide for the Ocean Institute on Sandy Hook, which provides K-12 school field trips focused on local marine life, maritime history, and the history of the US Military’s presence at Fort Hancock. This program began at Brookdale and is now with Clean Ocean Action as the Seaside Environmental Academy. Greg's first book, Investigating the Strauss Mansion, was published in 2014 by the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society. He recently had a second, Legends and Hauntings of the Jersey Bayshore, published in 2024 by Fonthill Media. Greg has also written for magazines such as Weird N.J. and Garden State Legacy. His work and research has been referenced in the New York Daily News, New York Times, Texas Monthly, Lancaster New Era, Asbury Park Press, NJ.Com, and Today.

Betsy Ross, during her lifetime, was more often known as Elizabeth Claypoole. She was one of thousands of average colonists whose efforts helped the American cause prevail against the British. Flag maker, seamstress, upholsterer, wife, mother and Quaker, she helped the new nation define itself through flags and colors. Learn all about Betsy, her husbands (plural) and her contributions to American Independence as well as her connections to America’s preeminent Founding Fathers. Alisa Dupuy of The Ladies of History is a masterful storyteller who will draw you into the 18th century as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Huzzah!
