The Peale family was one of America’s most influential artistic and intellectual family dynasties in early American History. This lecture examines the characters of this eccentric, invaluable, and innovative family and highlights their many contributions to American culture. From Charles Willson Peale’s important role as a portrait painter of the American Revolution and founder of one of America’s first museums, to his many children and grandchildren’s contributions in both the arts and sciences, this program will provide a great introduction to a very rich part of American history.
