Join us on Monday, March 9th at 6:00 p.m. to learn about Positive Parenting with Barbara Vita, Early Childhood Specialist. The Triple P Positive Parenting Program is an approach to raising children which aims to promote children’s development and manage children’s behavior in a constructive and non-hurtful way. It is based on good communication and positive attention to help children develop. Children who grow up with positive parenting are more likely to develop their skills and feel good about themselves and are less likely to develop behavior problems. The five key aspects to positive parenting will be discussed during this workshop. They are: having a safe, interesting environment, having a positive learning environment, using assertive discipline, having realistic expectations, taking care of yourself as a parent.

Barbara has been working with children and families for nearly twenty years. Barbara’s previous work includes serving as an infant & toddler teacher, assistant director and director of childcare centers, a family resource center coordinator, and a community school director. Barbara holds a Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from the University of Hartford, and a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University, where she also earned her certification in secondary education as an English teacher. Barbara has enjoyed presenting at numerous local, state, and national conferences on the topics of Toxic Stress, Mindfulness, Leadership, Literacy, Parenting, and Social-Emotional Learning. Barbara serves on the Board of Directors for the Charter Oak Cultural Center, as well as the West Hartford Women’s Chorale, which she has been a member of since 2010.
