Saving Slater
Zoom Class

Saturday, Jul. 13, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
The USS Slater is a Destroyer Escort that was active in battling Nazi U-boats during World War II. Today, the USS Slater is moored on the Hudson River in Albany, New York, and has undergone an extensive restoration that has returned the ship to her former glory. The Troy Public Library has a museum pass available for checkout that allows patrons to tour this ship for free. This presentation shares the history of USS SLATER and why she was chosen to become the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum. Stories will be shared about the history of Destroyer Escorts, SLATER’S involvement in WWII, her service in the Greek Navy, and her restoration transforming her into a world class museum. Presented by a SLATER volunteer you will get a first-hand look at the hard work that goes into keeping the “Old Girl” afloat. This is an all-ages event; adults, caregivers, and children are all welcome. Registration is required.
