An Artist’s Alphabet: Linda Chase on Artwork by Tom Blackwell

Saturday, Jun. 8, 4:30pm
In honor of this special exhibition of his paintings, Linda Chase will give a talk on the life and work of her late husband, artist Tom Blackwell. His nine-part series Volubulis, along with other work, will be on view in the library from June 8-August 31, 2024.

About the Artist:

Tom Blackwell, a long-time Rhinebeck resident who passed away from Covid in 2020, was one of the founders and foremost painters of the photorealist genre. He was first known for his dynamic, iconic motorcycle paintings of the early 1970s, and for his explorations of urban store-window reflections. His work is represented in the permanent collections of major museums including, MoMa, The Guggenheim Museum, and The Smithsonian Institute of American Art. In the late 1980s and 1990s, he created an alternative body of work juxtaposing imagery to challenge the viewer's emotional and intellectual expectations.
