Red envelopes, more commonly known as Hong Bao (in Mandarin) or Lai See (in Cantonese), are gifts presented at social and family gatherings such as weddings or holidays such as Chinese New Year. Make your hong bao and learn more about this tradition & its history from award-winning journalist Amy Wu. Traditional Chinese New Year snacks and sweets will be served! 

Amy Wu is an award-winning journalist, author, and filmmaker who specializes in telling the stories of women innovators and leaders in agrifoodtech. Her work has been showcased at SXSW, Forbes, Techonomy and highlighted in Civil Eats and Ms. Magazine. She also worked with Nan Jackson and Rowan Willigan on Witness to History: Rhinebeck Neighbors During COVID-19.
