  • Families that can commit to 8 weeks of classes in order to build a strong foundation of music eduction
Each week, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, (and the grownups who love them®) will gather at the library to make music as a community. This early childhood music class is designed to give families with children from birth through age 5 the chance to get in touch with their inner musician and connect with other families.

Playful, rich, and engaging, Music Together helps children of all ages—babies, toddlers, preschoolers - discover their inner music-maker by playing with the grownups they love. These music and movement classes also offer other important benefits. It turns out that music for children supports overall early childhood development.  It forges unique connections in the brain and enhances a child’s language, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development, as well as their disposition to learn. Simply put, music learning supports all learning!

Participants will receive:
  • A comprehensive, research-based music and movement curriculum in action
  • Classes led by a registered Music Together Specialist, trained in developmentally appropriate practice and early childhood music education
  • Family materials, including a colorfully illustrated and activity-filled family songbook and award-winning audio recordings
  • Exclusive online access to the Music Together Family Music Zone, as well as a growth chart and parent guide to assist in recognizing and celebrating the steps each child makes towards basic musical competence

*When you hear the phrase, "kids' music classes," you might envision a room with a teacher in front of a semi-circle of children, with a line of adults standing against the wall, lattes in hand. In reality, Music Together classes are informal, and all about family fun! In our classes, the grownups have just as much fun as the children as everyone sings, dances, and plays rhythm instruments—together! (No latte required.) And the take-home materials that every family receives help continue the fun at home. Sponsored by North Manchester Public Library.

Big kids know what they like. Telling silly stories. Playing games. Being in charge. Designed specifically for pre-K and early elementary students, our active Rhythm Kids classes for big kids tap into how children this age are wired to learn, with music games, animal rhythm stories, and lots of stomping-flying-climbing fun.*

Rhythm Kids is just the thing to get your child to (willingly) put down the iPad and start making music with their friends. By the end of the semester, they’ll be proud to show off what they’ve learned: to you, their friends and teachers, and—let’s face it—for some kids, every person they meet!

Participants will receive:
  • A comprehensive, research-based music and movement curriculum in action
  • Classes led by a registered Music Together Specialist, trained in developmentally appropriate practice and early childhood music education

*Students learn to compose, choreograph, and conduct as they play—and play with!—a variety of musical instruments: West African djembe drums, percussion instruments, and, the most important instruments of all, their voices and their bodies. As your big kid learns to think and create like a musician, they’ll also build musical connections to the global community. Classes include:
  • immersion in the musical language of many cultures
  • playful music games with rules
  • opportunities to lead, balanced with opportunities to collaborate
  • deep exposure to complex, fun, and rockin' music
  • many chances to solo, improvise, and work in ensembles
  • rich, creative experimentation and expression, improvisation, and innovation
Sponsored by North Manchester Public Library.

  • A special Family Night celebration on Wednesday, July 9 @ 6 pm
Music Together will meet Mondays, June 9, 16, 23 & 30 and July 7, 14, 21 & 28 @ 1:30 pm.

This program is made possible with the support of the North Manchester Fine Arts Club!
