VIRTUAL PROGRAM Brow
VIRTUAL PROGRAM Brown’s Defeat: A bad day for Western Massachusetts during the Revolutionary War
VIRTUAL PROGRAM

Thursday, Oct. 22, 7:00-8:30pm
Most people have never heard of the “other” John Brown, the Revolutionary War leader from Pittsfield who was an early critic of Benedict Arnold, lead a daring raid on Fort Ticonderoga in 1777, and died with more than thirty of his men on October 19th, 1780 in an obscure fight on the Mohawk River.  The Battle of Stone Arabia took a heavy toll on Col. Brown’s Massachusetts State Levies, men raised in the Berkshires and adjacent parts of the Pioneer Valley. Local Historian Tim Abbott tells the story of their service and suffering 240 years ago on the New York frontier.

This program will be recorded and posted later on the Library website.
