Charting Her Course:
Theoretical Reflections on Women in Medical Training, Gina Luria Walker and Lisa Metcalfe are joined by Eloise Cathcart and Kathryn Tabb in a discussion exploring the immense importance of women in medical education, taking into consideration both theoretical interpretations and historical contexts.
About the Speakers:
Eloise Cathcart is a Professor Emerita at the NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her scholarly work focused on the description of experientially acquired knowledge, skill, and ethics embedded in nurse manager practice.
Kathryn Tabb is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Bard College. Her interests include philosophy of science and medicine, bioethics, psychopathology, American pragmatism, and the history of philosophy, especially early modern philosophy.
Gina Luria Walker is Professor Emerita of Women's Studies and Director of The New Historia at The New School in New York City. She
is an intellectual historian who investigates alternatives to traditional accounts of the past. As Executive Director of
The New Historia, her mission is to present authoritative, multidisciplinary scholarship on women’s contributions to society, to broadcast these stories on a pioneering, interactive platform and at public events, and to reveal an alternative history that values the roles women have always played in human endeavors. Dr. Walker is a pioneer in the global project of feminist historical recovery of earlier women.
Lisa Metcalfe is a respected fashion and retail veteran with over 38 years of experience. She has taught and lectured at Parsons School of Design, FIT, and Parsons Emilux program, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs at NYU Stern. Currently, she is a mentor for the Council of Fashion Designers of America and a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Bethann Hardison Foundation. Additionally, she serves on the Fashion Advisory Board for Unshattered and is a founder of The Friends of Clinton. She is the Chair of The New Historia Foundation.
