Join us at the Georgetown Library Saturday, May 31st at 1:00 pm for author and local historian Karen Dustman presenting on her book “Silver Mountain City: Ghost of the Sierra”.
Once, Silver Mountain City was home to thousands of eager silver miners. A mere speck on the map in the Eastern Sierra, this Comstock-era boomtown was Alpine County’s original county seat. But today it’s a nearly-forgotten treasure, just a “ghost of a ghost town,” with not a stick of lumber left standing. Alpine historians Karen and Rick Dustman were captivated over a decade ago by the magic of Silver Mountain City. “Silver Mountain was the reason Alpine County itself was formed in 1864. The Dustmans published a book about this long-forgotten settlement, “Silver Mountain City: Ghost of the Sierra.” Come enjoy the tale of this once-thriving silver mining settlement, with pictures of what the site looks like today!
