Health and Medical Literacy: Learn to talk to your Doctor

Thursday, Jan. 9, 1pm to 2pm

We are excited to announce that we will have a 5-week health literacy class taking place at the Lansingburgh Library starting on Thursday, January 9th at 1pm-2:30pm. This class will take place for 5 consecutive Thursdays.

You will be given a student book and classes are taught by professional and experienced health instructors, in English, and aimed at upper beginner to intermediate English language learners.

This 5-week course is an excellent resource to navigate the US health system and its challenges. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and connect with other health professionals.

The topics covered will include:

Week 1 - Getting Healthcare - understanding health insurance and navigating your local office
Week 2 - Doctor Visits -  how to speak to a doctor and knowing what questions to ask
Week 3 - Medicine - reading medicine bottles and identifying over-the-counter as well as prescription medicine
Week 4 - Healthy Food and Staying Healthy
Week 5 - Reproductive Health - a womens-only session teaching reproductive and menstrual health.
