A program brought to you by Northern Dutchess Hospital, Starr Library, and Rhinebeck at Home. In this presentation, Stroke Coordinator Cheryl Miller will review the different kinds of strokes and the treatment for each stroke, the signs and symptoms of a stroke, and what to do if you or someone you know are experiencing any of the symptoms. Risk factors will be reviewed, as 90% of strokes are preventable. We will talk about what happens when you arrive at the Emergency room and what occurs when you are admitted to the hospital.

About the Speaker:
Cheryl Miller serves as the Performance Improvement Specialist and Stroke Coordinator at Northern Dutchess Hospital. A seasoned nursing professional with 37 years of experience. Cheryl has dedicated the last 22 years to the hospital where she initially worked as an emergency room nurse before transitioning into her role in the Quality Department. In her career as a Stroke Coordinator, Cheryl plays an essential role in the comprehensive management of stroke patients. Her responsibilities include overseeing protocols to optimize patient outcomes, as well as actively engaging in staff education to ensure healthcare professionals are knowledgeable and up to date with stroke management. Cheryl is also involved in community education initiates, aiming to raise awareness about stroke risk factors and symptoms. Given that stroke is a leading cause of death and permanent disability, improving stroke outcomes is also important in the broader community.
