Designs of Thomas Heatherwick including The Vessel and Little Island
Virtual Program
Wednesday, Oct. 11, 7pm
The British architect and designer Thomas Heatherwick was chosen to contribute a major public artwork for the center of Hudson Yard in Manhattan – a structure that is monumental like architecture, but also elegantly shaped like a sculpture. Intended to attract visitors to the new commercial center, it became controversial for many reasons. Heatherwick’s newest addition to NYC’s landmarks is his Little Island, a circular pier, beautifully landscaped, with outside performance spaces and interactive public art. We will have a close look at the amazing career of this British designer who brings a whole new approach to the shaping of spaces and places, with a special focus on his NYC designs.
