The Maurice Faulkner Brass Quintet forms the cutting edge of the brass program at the University of California – Santa Barbara. Its repertoire extends from the Renaissance to modern music, including jazz. Touring has encompassed California and western states. The ensemble is named for the late Maurice Faulkner, longtime conductor and teacher, who helped bring the Music Department into the UC system, and was the program’s chair afterwards.
Dr. Steven Gross is the Director of the Maurice Faulkner Brass Quintet. He is Professor of Horn, and Head of the Wind, Brass, and Percussion Area at the University of California–Santa Barbara. He is also a former member of the Atlanta Symphony, National Symphony, Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and for 24 years Principal Horn of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. Dr. G has released 7 CDs, and is a frequent artist at national and international venues.
