Teen Book Club

Wednesday, May 15, 4:30 pm
Join us each month on the third Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for Teen Book Club! 

Each month we will pick a book to read and discuss. We also have art activities connected to the books we are reading. 
New readers are always welcome! Didn't read or finish the book? That is ok, still come and hang out! 
Tasty snacks provided. 
Books can be picked up at the Library front desk. 

This is a FREE program and is open to teens.

Join us in the Great Hall of the Arkell Museum and Canajoharie Library for Storytime!

We have the scarves and the egg shakers. We have the songs and the stories. We just need you and the kiddos!
Each month we have a new theme. Each day after Storytime we will have a craft or activity for the littles to enjoy.
Storytime promotes early literacy, and helps young learners become kindergarten ready by practicing sitting, listening, reading, sharing, following directions, movement, and song with other children and adults.
All with lots of fun mixed in!

This is a weekly FREE program

Best for pre-k age kids. Families welcome! Older kids are also welcome, but might not get the most out of this program.

Butterfly Suncatcher
2 Erie Blvd. Canajoharie
Friday, May 17, 3:00 pm
The kids are out of school early! Join us on May 17 at 3 pm in the classroom as we make butterfly suncatchers!

We will use construction paper, tissue paper, and contact paper to make butterflies to take home.

This is a FREE program for kids and tweens.

 Art of New York Jur

Saturday, May 18, 1:00 pm
Join us May 18th from 1-4 pm in the Great Hall for an award ceremony and meet the artist reception celebrating the Art of New York Juried Art Show. Awards will be handed out at 2pm.  
 Meet artists from across New York State, check out the Juried Art Show, and enjoy light refreshments.  
 
This reception is free, and all ages are welcome.

Painting with Patric

Thursday, Jun. 13, 2:00 pm
Join us in the Arkell Museum & Canajoharie Library Great Hall on June 13, 2024, at 2 pm for Painting with Patrice.  
Registration is requested for this program.  

Patrice will walk us step by step through painting a beautiful landscape.  

Patrice’s guided 2-hour acrylic painting workshops are for those who would like to explore and learn painting techniques in a fun, positive and encouraging environment. All participants will bring home a finished piece on a small, stretched canvas, no framing necessary. Adult and teen beginners and artists of all levels will enjoy this class. All supplies are provided. 

Patrice has been part of the arts community for over 25 years. She has worked as a photographer, calligrapher, sign painter, and teaching artist. Throughout her career she has taught art to all ages and is presently the Teaching Artist at the World Awareness Children’s Museum in Glens Falls NY. Patrice’s focus is to educate through art and instill an appreciation of the arts.

Kids Concert Series

Friday, Jun. 14, 11:00 am
Join us every second Friday of the month for a special kids music concert with talented musician Gary Van Slyke.

Gary has been performing for many years and has a wonderful curriculum of songs that will get your kids clapping, stomping, and singing along.

Each concert is unique and full of new songs. Gary might even bring instruments for the kids to try out!

This program is FREE and open to all. The music will be centered on 0 - 11 age group, but older folks are welcome to join us.
Say Gay: Queer Artis

Join us in the Great Hall of the Arkell Museum, Saturday June 15th at 2:00 pm to celebrate Pride Month with a presentation by Curator of Education Mary Alexander discussing queer artists of the Arkell Museum's permanent collection.
This presentation offers a unique perspective on the Arkell Museum's art collection, and the impact of LGBTQIA+ artists on art and history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This talk is FREE and open to the public.

En Plein Air Paintin
2 Erie Blvd. Canajoharie
Saturday, Jun. 22, 12:30
Join us on June 22 from 12:30-4:30 pm as regional artists paint en plein air (outside) in our Memorial Garden. Skilled artists will demonstrate how to set up to paint outside, techniques for capturing outdoor landscapes, and answer any questions you might have!  
 
Do you paint en plein air? Feel free to bring your materials and pick a spot in the garden to paint!  
 
This is a free program, and all ages are welcome to come and see the artists at work!
