Luciano Pavarotti was the most famous tenor of his generation, catapulted to stardom as “The King of the High C’s” after performances of La Fille du Regiment. He capitalized on his larger than life personality as much as his sweet, natural tenor voice to become an opera and media star. His career began in 1961 with his professional debut, and lasted until his final appearances in 2006. Pavarotti remains a beloved artist with an enormous legacy. Franco Zeffirelli summed him up best: “There were tenors, and then there was Pavarotti.”

At the end of the July 1863, the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of the Potomac returned to the line of the upper Rappahannock. After a brief respite, both Robert E. Lee and George Meade expected the next phase of the Gettysburg campaign to begin shortly. This period represents the critical connective tissue between Gettysburg and the upcoming Bristoe Station and Mine Run campaigns which would decide whether Meade would pick the fruits of his Pennsylvania victory or be denied its rewards by Lee.

Join us for a presentation & discussion of this interesting and surprisingly relevant exhibition on Dorothea Lange’s photography with a special focus on its relationship to language – writing found in the environment, but also captions or descriptions added in various publications, to “extend, buttress, illuminate, and explain the photograph”. She very carefully composed her thought provoking images while always dedicated to being truthful. So many of her images have become iconic, most famously the Migrant Mother.
