David Niven is an exhausted concert pianist who goes to an apartment building he owns to get some rest. He ends up getting caught up in the lives of his eccentric tenants.  Also starring jane Wyman, Victor Moore, and Broderick Crawford.

The Frake Family makes their annual pilgrimage to the Iowa State Fair and this visit is filled with romance and prize-winning hogs, mincemeat pies, and most of all wonderful tunes by Rogers and Hammerstein.  This charming film stars Vivian Blaine, Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews and Dick Haymes.  It is truly a Grand Night for Singing.

ORDINARY ANGELS (2024) (118 min.) Rated PG

Hilary Swank stars in this true story of a hairdresser who rallies her entire town to help a widowed father save the life of his sick daughter. This film is quite moving and brings together belief in faith and family. Also starring Alan Ritchson and Emily Mitchell.

AGAINST ALL FLAGS (1952) (84 min.) Not Rated

Errol Flynn stars in this high adventure swashbuckling pirate film.  He is a British Navy sailor who is pretending to be a deserter to infiltrate a pirate stronghold that is giving the British trouble.  Maureen O’Hara is a pirate called Spitfire Stevens and Anthony Quinn is here too as a suspicious and unsavory pirate.  It is a greatly entertaining romp.

ARGYLLE (2024) (139 min.) Rated PG-13

Bryce Dallas Howard stars as a spy novelist who stumbles into an espionage situation that seems to mirror the plot of her latest novel.  This action-adventure/comedy also stars Henry Cavill and Sam Rockwell.

RUGGLES OF RED GAP (1935) (90 min.) Not Rated

The magnificent Charles Laughton stars as a very proper British butler whose aristocratic employer loses him in a poker game to a wily American with a social climbing wife.  It is one of those fish out of water scenarios but it is such fun to watch.  Also starring Charles Ruggles, Mary Boland, and Roland Young.

MEAN GIRLS (2024) (112min.) Rated PG-13

This film is a new adaptation of the original movie which is based on the Broadway musical. The  new cast includes  Renee Rapp, Angourie Rice, Auli’i Cravalho, and , of course, Tina Fey. We all go back to high school in this one.

Bette Davis shines in this dramatic film set in the world of classical music.  Claude Rains is a composer and Pail Henreid is a cellist and they both love Bette.  Besides the top-notch cast there is also beautiful classical music

LANCASTER (2022) (110 min.) Not Rated    DOCUMENTARY

This excellent documentary details the story of the World War II Lancaster bombers and the men who flew on them.  The cinematography is superb and this film will take you back to the Battle of Britain and the sacrifices made by many young men to defeat fascism.

ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM (1946) (128 min.) Not Rated

This film is a charming drama about the relationship of an Asian king and the British woman he hires as a teacher for his many children.  Based on a true story, this film stars Irene Dunne as Anna and Rex Harrison as the King of Siam.  The film also features Linda Darnell, Gale Sondergaard, and Lee J. Cobb. Directed by John Cromwell.

MURDER BY INVITATION (1941) (67 min.) Not Rated

Sarah Padden stars as an eccentric millionairess who invites all of her greedy relatives to her mansion for the weekend to decide who is going to inherit her fortune.  Unfortunately, there is murder involved.  Wallace Ford is an intrepid reporter who arrives on the scene to investigate.  If you are a fan of Agatha Christine, you will enjoy this movie.

FREUD’S LAST SESSION (2023) (108 min.) Rated PG-13

Anthony Hopkins stars as Sigmund Freud and Matthew Goode stars as C.S. Lewis as the two men meet and debate the existence of God and other relationships.   This movie is beautifully filmed and is intellectually stimulating.  Nice to have a movie made for grownups.

LARCENY, INC. (1942) (67 min.) Not Rated

Edward G. Robinson, Broderick Crawford, and Edward Brophy star as three ex-cons who come up with a scheme to buy a luggage shop but their real motive is to tunnel into the bank next door. They only have one problem – their shop is a great success. This adorable comedy also features Jane Wyman, Jackie Gleason, Anthony Quinn, and Jack Carson.

Emma Mackay stars as the writer Emily Bronte and this film tells the story of her life experiences that influenced her writing “Wuthering Heights.” The film also features Oliver Jackson-Cohen and was directed by Frances O’Connor.

MRS. POLLIFAX - SPY (1971) (110 min.) Rated G

The sublime Rosalind Russell stars as a New Jersey widow who volunteers to works for the CIA.  She is sent on an easy mission to Mexico to pick up a certain book but things just don’t go the way they were planned.  This was Roz’s last theatrical movie and what a joy it is to watch.  Based on the novels by Dorothy Gilman, this film also features Darren McGavin.

BOB MARLEY – ONE LOVE (2024) (107 min.) Rated PG-13

Kingsley Ben- Adir stars as reggae icon Bob Marley as this film tells the story of how he overcame adversity to revolutionize music.  It is a compelling and entertaining movie that also features Lashana Lynch and James Norton.
