Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman team up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to save the world from an existential threat.  This is a really fun action movie with lots of jokes and cameo appearances. Directed by Shawn Levy.

In his final film, Alfred Hitchcock weaves together suspense and humor about a wealthy woman who hires a phony psychic to find her missing heir.  The top-notch cast includes Karen Black, Bruce Dern, Barbara Harris, and William Devane.

THE BOY IN THE WOODS (2023) (101 min.) Not Rated

Jeff Klyne stars as a young Jewish boy who is hiding out in the forests of Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe. This film is based on a true story that also features Richard Armitage.

THREE LITTLE WORDS (1950) (106 min.) Not Rated

Fred Astaire and Red Skelton star as the songwriting team of Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby who wrote many hit songs in the 1920’s and 1930’s.  This is a wonderful musical with great dancing (of course) and also fine performances by Vera-Ellen and Arlene Dahl. There is a young Debbie Reynolds here too.

BLINK TWICE (2024) (102 min.) Rated R

Naomi Ackie stars as a cocktail waitress who is invited by a tech billionaire played by Channing Tatum to join him and his friends on a dream vacation on a private island.  She is having a great time until she begins to wonder what is really going on. The movie is beautifully filmed and was directed by Zoe Kravitz.

RUDY (1993) (114 min.) Rated PG

Before you sit down for a weekend of football, it is time to see this film.  Sean Astin stars in the true story of a young man who dreams of going to college at Notre Dame and playing on the football team. This is a terrific and inspiring film that also features Ned Beatty and Jon Favreau and is considered by many to be the best sports movie ever made

A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN (1945) (129 min.) Rated PG

Peggy Ann Garner stars as young Francie Nolan who comes of age living in a Brooklyn tenement during the early 1900’s.  Based on the bestselling book by Betty Smith, this film is a moving and realistic portrait of family life.  Also starring Dorothy McGuire and directed by Elia Kazan.

IT ENDS SWITH US (2024) (130 MIN.) Rated PG-13

Blake Lively stars as a young woman who has a relationship with a charming neurosurgeon.  Everything is great until she starts seeing troubling signs.  This film is based on the bestselling book by Colleen Hoover and also stars Justin Baldoni.

YES VIRGINIA, THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS (1991) (85 min.) Rated PG-13

In New York in 1897, a young girl writes a letter to a local newspaper asking for the truth about the existence of Santa Claus. A reporter is tasked to answering her letter and his reply has come to be considered one of the most heartfelt pieces of writing about the holiday spirit.  The movie stars Richard Thomas, Edward Asner, and Charles Bronson

Ian McKellen stars as a powerful London theatre critic who lures a struggling actress into a blackmail scheme.  This suspenseful thriller also stars Gemma Atherton., Mark Strong, and Lesley Manville.

CHRISTMAS EVE (1947) (90 min.) Not Rated

An unscrupulous nephew played by Reginald Denny tries to have his rich aunt played by Ann Harding declared incompetent so he can swindle her out of her money.  Her three adopted sons come to her rescue. What sons!  They are played by George Brent, George Raft, and Randolph Scott. This is a heartwarming comedy for all seasons.  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS (2004) (99 min.) Rated PG

Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen star as a couple who decide to skip Christmas this year as their daughter is out of the country.  Their plans are thrown into disarray as she decides to come home for the holiday.  This film is based on the John Grisham book “Skipping Christmas”
