Did you know that your body has its own set of blueprints like a house?  DNA is the genetic information of the body's cells.  It gives instructions for all of the body's processes and helps make you, you.  Come explore the world of DNA with Manchester University students through a multi-station, hands-on science lab.  The lab is primarily for children, but all are welcome!  We hope to see you there! Fire by friction is an ancient human art and skill that has been a critical component of our survival as species. In this ancestral fire making skills workshop students will get to know some of the plant allies that are necessary to the skill of primitive fire making. Using techniques like hand drill, bow drill, fire plow and fire roll we will be able to not just conceptualize the skill, but also practice and take with us the art of fire making with plants and trees.  

Led by Amos Rodriguez, Season 7 contestant from the History Channel’s survival series Alone, this is an amazing opportunity to learn an important ancient skill from an expert woodsman.

At this event, kids will discover new authors, genres, and series by sampling a variety of books in limited periods of time. When the clock runs out they can decide to bring the book home, try another title, or do both! Even reluctant readers will enjoy this fun (and tasty) format.
