Join James Guilford, Director of Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College, for an evening of stories about the universe.  From the mythology about the constellations to the history of planetary exploration, Guilford will share some of the stories that the cosmos inspires as well as those that are revealed as we explore space.

Summer Story Slam: T
Thursday, Jul. 11, 7:00 pm
Story tellers are invited to tell a 10 minute or less true story on the theme, “To Boldly Go.” Share a time when you got out of your comfort zone, tried something new, or made a discovery in the great, wide universe or in your own neighborhood. New story tellers are encouraged to plan out and time their story before the event.

As many stories as possible will be shared during the hour-long event. Those not wishing to tell a story are welcome to attend and listen. Story tellers and attendees must be 18 or over. Subject matter and language should be appropriate for a general audience.

Water, Life, Mars, E
Monday, Jul. 15, 7:00 pm
Water is essential for life--on Earth. Which is why NASA's motto in its hunt for extraterrestrial life has been "follow the water." Join us as we discuss water, its benefits to the human body, and its implications on Mars. Participants will design their own water bottles. For adults 18 and up.

Practical Astrology

Local Astrologer Luna Hart will share her insights on astrology, your owner's manual for life. A limited number of free moon journals will be given away to program attendees. For adults aged 18 and up. No registration required.

For 11 years, this all-ages group has been meeting to discuss classic and award-winning novels, nonfiction, and plays, such as A Tale of Two Cities, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Charlotte's Web, and Midsummer Night's Dream. Join this energetic group on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Bumprhey Room.

KFL Photography Cont

Amateur photographers ages 16 and older are invited to enter their best images of Kent, Ohio, in our first annual KFL Photography Contest. This contest allows people the chance to see the city through your unique lens! Entries will be displayed during the month of August 2019 at the Kent Free Library and prizes will be awarded. Photo submissions will be accepted between July 22 and July 26 at the first floor Information Desk. See desk for details.

Do you love cooking? Join us as we explore food themes through cookbooks. Select a recipe to make from the library's cookbook collection or make a recipe from one of your cookbooks. No Internet recipes please. Bring your dish to share along with a copy of the recipe.

The Cookbook Club meets quarterly on the fourth Tuesday.  Intended for ages 18+.

Seed Saving Workshop
Thursday, Aug. 1, 7:00 pm
Whether you started your garden with the intention of saving seeds or not, there's still time to harvest seeds to help replenish the library's Seed Library for next year. Learn which of your vegetables, herbs, and flowers you can save seeds from, and how to successfully harvest, clean, and get them ready to donate. Also learn how to plan now to overwinter some plants so you can harvest seeds in the spring.
