Parents Helping Parents: Great Ideas for Family Fun

Thank you to our Blake Library parents who helped create this fabulous list of inexpensive, local spots for family fun! Although we verified information where possible, please contact these sites directly for accurate prices, locations, and age limitations.

Library and Exploration Lab:  Check out your local library branch!  An indoor retreat where kids can attend free programs, storytimes, or just sit and enjoy a great book.  Enjoy our fabulous teen programs as well!  Check out the Exploration Lab at the Blake Library in Stuart - It's a playroom filled with educational toys, books, and videos - a great spot to avoid the heat or rain! Call ahead as the room is closed during programs.  Free   Ages: infant-teen

Bathtub Beach:  The beach itself is protected by Bathtub Reef, making this an excellent spot for children to swim and snorkel.     Free

Busch Wildlife Sanctuary: A non-profit educational care facility for injured animals.  Children can observe native Florida wildlife, endangered species, and animal feedings.   Free.   Jupiter, FL

Calypso Bay Water Park: Part of the Palm Beach County Parks and Rec. Department.  Royal Palm Beach, FL. Suggested: 2 years    Adults: $10  3-11years: $8  1-2years: $3

Party with Books!

Everything you need to create a fun and unique birthday party at home!

The Blake Library is now offering birthday parties, complete with games, music, and, of course, books!  You can throw book birthdays of your own right in your own home!  Check out these creative ideas!


1st: Select Your Theme:  Use a hobby, interest, favorite book character/genre, time period, even a favorite dish for inspiration!  Here are a few suggestions; use our Birthday Links below for more!

Cool kids books by german authors @ your library

Always wondered what kind of story might come from a country with castles and lots of folktales?  Dragons always have been fascinating and also stories about knights and princesses. Especially stories about books not only for booklovers  but also for kids just as real as in the book themselves.

Better than any reality show on TV !! So get yourself and your kids  drawn into a story written by german authors I like to list here:

REEL READS!
  Start a new tradition 2008.....read the book before you go see the movie with your family.
  • The Golden Compass (presently playing at local theaters) is the first novel in the  His Dark Materials trilogy by British novelist Phillip Pullman.

 

  •  The Spiderwick Chronicles (movie coming Feb 15, 2008) is an amazing series of illustrated children's fantasy books written by Holly Black and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi.

Act Out Your Favorite Story - Great Gift Idea!
