The Obituary Index:

• displays name, age, date and newspaper
• based on two newspapers:
• KJ (Knoxville Journal) for 1991 (after which it ceased publication)
• KNS (Knoxville News Sentinel) from January 1991 to the present
• updated in 2-month increments; may be as many as 4 months out of date
• only one obit date, not every day the obit ran; in our judgment the most complete obituary

• Contact McClung Historical Collection staff directly by phone, mail, or send an email to mcclung@knoxlib.org
• $3.00 for up to three obituaries
• Date of death must be provided
• Knoxville News Sentinel – free for 365 days
• America’s Newspapers database – beginning 10/1998

If your search fails, try your search again using fewer criteria.

Obituaries can run many days, but usually only one date is listed. If you have access to the newspapers, you may want to check the newspapers a week in either direction to determine that for yourself.
