Wright Library will offer classes on using the new software on Wednesday, January 20 at 9:00-9:45 a.m. and Wednesday, January 27 at 9:00-9:45 a.m. Reservations are required. Call the Reference Department at 294-7171 to register.

WinWay Resume Deluxe, also used by the Job Center and Dayton Metro Library, can help you no matter where you are in the job search process. The program includes over 14,000 sample resumes for virtually every profession and offers a cover letter creator, videos of job interviews, and an “auditor” feature that checks through resumes for mistakes.

What can you do to market yourself to potential employers? On Thursday, May 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wright Library will host a resume writing program with John Bengson, Vice President of Consulting Services with Right Management in Dayton.

Mr. Bengson will give tips on how to turn your resume into a successful marketing tool in today’s uncertain economy. Mr. Bengson, who earned a B.A. in Business from Wittenberg University and an M.B.A. in Marketing from Miami University, is certified as a Professional in Human Resources through the Society for Human Resource Management.


The program will be held in the Library meeting room. Advance registration is necessary and is limited to 50 people.  To register, or to ask questions, contact the Reference Deepartment.

]]> Reference Staff Wed, 13 May 2009 09:28:23 GMT Ohio Means Jobs http://engagedpatrons.org/Blogs.cfm?SiteID=4725&BlogID=143&BlogPostID=4277 We have done previous posts on job hunting resources (here and here) but, we would like to bring your attention to another:  Ohio Means Jobs.  Aimed at bringing Ohio employers and job seekers together, this service also aggregates national job boards, which lets you search numerous boards at once.  In addition, the site allows you to create and post your resume.  Below is a slide presentation that offers instructions on how to use the Ohio Means Jobs site. 

The Library also makes available the tools from  Learning ExpressLibrary which can help develop a variety of job seeking skills.  You will find these tools under the Job Search and Workplace Skills heading.  They cover the writing of resumes and cover letters, interviewing, and general career and job skills.  To access this resource, you may be asked for your library card number or zip code.

Numerous job finding services exist online, so we have tried to provide you with those that have been reviewed by a third party.  Along with job listings and resume posting, these sites usually have additional resources such as resume builders, career planning advice, salary calculators, and even online training.  

Another way to use the Internet to find a job is to go to the Web sites of companies for which you might interested in working.  Many post job openings and provide applications online.  Best of luck.

At the CareerOneStop Web site sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor you can do a job search, but there is a wealth of additional information to assist you in finding the right career.  Another Department of Labor sponsored site, along with the Department of Education, is Career Voyages, which is designed to provide information on high growth, in-demand occupations along with the skills and education needed to attain those jobs.

Ohio's Statewide Job Matching Service is part of the Workforce411 program designed to help connect workers with job skills as well as employers.
