Rating: Excellent! (5)

The war is over. That's all Day and June can focus on after they sacrificed so much for their country. The Republic is on the brink of new beginnings. Things should be okay.
But they're not.
A new string of plague breaks out and causes panic in the Colonies, the neighboring nation to the Republic. As war threatens the Republic once again, Day and June are reunited and battle the impossible. This stunning conclusion to the trilogy "Legend" not only gets the attention of readers, but deserves it. I'm a little disappointed that the rating can only go to five on this website; this book is somewhere rated in the hundreds. Brilliant and breathtaking, book lovers will simply keep this book by their side three months after they're done reading it so it's close to them. AMAZING!

Girl in the Arena

Rating: Not Great (2)

This is a story about a girl in a dystopian, gladiator-like world, written by an author trying to follow the success of The Hunger Games (and failing).
Basically, in this future gladiator fighting is an accepted and popular sport. The main character's mother is the wife of a gladiator (and has remarried many times in the past). Lyn, the protagonist, gives her dowry bracelet to her current father, who is later killed by another gladiator. The new gladiator captures the bracelet, which means Lyn has to marry him or become a gladiator herself.
That is about where I stopped reading. The book itself isn't particularly exciting, but the author's style isn't easy to look at.
The main reason is that hyphens are used in place of quotation marks. Other authors do that as well, but this can be headache-inducing and it doesn't give anything to the story.
If you are looking for an exciting, Hunger Games-like story, look elsewhere.

-------------------------------------------

The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King

Rating: Excellent! The book uses a very unique writing style where when you start the book you know nothing and gain information by memories from the past throughout the book. The book is very descriptive so it is easy to be able to picture everything just as the author imagines it should be. The book is about Roland, he is a gunslinger, the last of his kind. Set in a post-apocolyptic mid western setting he sets off for an amazing journey across the desert. This book is unlike any other i have ever read and is now one of my favorite books. Currently there are seven books in the dark towers series, this being the first, and it is very excited that I can have a fun long lasting series that I will enjoy for a long time. I highly recommend this book.

 -------------------------------------------

Find this Book in our Library Catalog (V-Cat):
The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger by Stephen King
