Saturday October 9th, children's book illustrator Vong Lao will give a program on his artwork in the new picture book KA'S GARDEN. The program will be held in the Wausau Room starting at 1:00. A book-signing will follow with copies available for purchase from Janke's Bookstore.

Monday October 11th, the Wausau Headquarters will host a book discussion on this year's READS selection, Paul Fleischman's SEEDFOLKS. The program begins at 6:30 in the Wausau Room.

On Tuesday October 12th, Tom Rau will discuss Wausau's Community Garden, its history and how you can get involved. That program will begin at 6:30 on the 2nd Floor of the Headquarters Library.

Thursday October 14th, Darla Zastrow will offer a fascinating introduction to the wonders of the newly-created Robert W. Monk Botanical Gardens, central Wisconsin's first public botanical gardens. The program will start at 6:30 in the Wausau Room.

Wherever you live in Marathon County, there are many wonderful programs, concerts and other events being presented as part of this year's READS celebration. Check with your local branch for information on their offerings and join in the fun!

The READS program is designed to promote reading, literacy and cultural awareness.

A variety of program and activities for all ages will be offered countywide. First and foremost will be Seedfolks book discussion sessions which will be held at all branches. Check with your local branch or click here for dates and times. 

Here are some of the special Seedfolks events the Wausau Headquarters will be offering. On Monday October 4th, Master Gardener Carol Bray will present two gardening programs for those in grades K-2 and 3-5. On Tuesday October 5th, Kat Becker will talk about Organic Farming and Community Supported Agriculture. On Saturday October 9th, children's book illustrator Vong Lao will discuss his new picture book Ka's Garden. On the 12th, Tom Rau will talk about Wausau's own Community Garden. On the 14th, Wausau's Monk Botanical Gardens will be the subject of Darla Zastrow's program. Come enjoy the 'Magic Mama' Family Concert on Saturday the 16th. And, on the 28th, the Wausau Library's garage will be become a petting zoo filled with ducks, rabbits, miniature cows and sheep! 

All branches will be hosting special events. These include Fall Gardening programs, 'Craft Days,' 'Pumpkin Fest' programs and 'Funtastic Fall' programs. Call your local branch for details or check out the MCPL website at www.mcpl.us/reads.

Lastly, during the week of October 11th, all regularly-scheduled children's storytimes at all branches will be Seedfolks-related storytimes with songs and activities for all ages.
