Ekphrastic Poetry with Hill-Stead Museum
Canton Public Library
Monday, Mar. 18, 3:00 - 4:00 PM
In anticipation of the upcoming Canton Teen Writing Contest beginning March 25, discover our second fun preparation for the contest. Ekphrastic means a vivid description of a scene or work of art. You’ll learn about how to write this type of poetry by using images from Hill-Stead’s unique collection of artworks as inspiration. We’ll review a poem based on the iconic woodblock print of The Great Wave by Hokusai, and then explore three other pieces together to learn how to look at art and explore various perspectives. Finally, we’ll write our own poetry celebrating art. Grades 7 and up (younger writers need to get permission from Meghan Glasgow or Clair Williams). Registration required, either online on the Upcoming Programs listing, or by phone; free. Canton Public Library is at 40 Dyer Avenue, Canton. For information or to register: call (860) 693-5800, email mglasgow@cantonpubliclibrary.org.
