City of Santa Maria

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and in honor of that, the City of Santa Maria Public Library will be participating by screening the film, "Visions of Warriors", from director/producer/writer/editor Ming Lai. After the movie there will be a question and answer segment with Mr. Lai! The documentary follows four veterans, spanning the eras from Vietnam to Iraq: Mark Pinto (USMC), Homerina Bond (USMC), Ari Sonnenberg (US Army) and Priscila Bethal (US Army). These veterans recount their journey in the Veterana Photo Recovery Project (VPRP) at the VA Menlo Park. The documentary also folows the VPRP team led by nurse practitioner Susan Quaglietti. The VPRP suppleents traditional therapy by using photography therapy that treats mental illnesses like moral injury, post-traumatic stress diorder (PTSD), sexual trauma suffered while in uniform, just to name a few.
