Early Release Wednesday, St. John
St John Branch Library

Wednesday, Sep. 26, 12:15 to 1:30 pm

Students in grade K through 5 are invited to come to the St. John Library on Wednesday, September 26 at 12:15 p.m. for this year’s first Early Release Wednesday.  The theme is aquatic life.  Biology Graduate Student and former assistant librarian Shawna Warehime is bringing buckets of tiny invertebrates and microscopes for hands on exploration of what inhabits the lakes and rivers in our area.  Aquatic invertebrates are water animals without backbones. They comprise about 95% of the animal kingdom and are important for the environment. They connect the food webs between land and water and can tell us how healthy the environment is. Not only are they important in science, but according to Shawna they are fun to play with!  Shawna’s presentation includes pictures of a variety of aquatic life and her work to explore water ecology.

When the program ends at 1:30 p.m. members of the library staff and volunteers will walk the group to the Methodist Church for the popular movie afternoon.

Sponsored by Friends of St. John Library.
