Titus Peachey will describe his own experience as a conscientious objector in Vietnam during the war, using journal entries and excerpts from letters home to document what became a powerful life-shaping period in his life. Mr. Peachey is the Director of Peace Education for Mennonite Central Committee U.S. in Akron, PA. He served 3 years in Vietnam as a conscientious objector from 1970-1973. During that time he taught English classes to high school and university students in Saigon. He also spent several months working in a tribal village in the Central Highlands near the end of his time there. He traveled extensively throughout the country and learned to speak Vietnamese. While in Vietnam he served under the auspices of Eastern Mennonite Missions. From 1980-1985,Titus and his wife Linda worked as country directors for MCC's program in Laos, which was heavily bombed by the U.S. during the Vietnam War period.
