Please join us on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.when kids author Hena Khan will present her newest picture book, Under My Hijab
, illustrated by Aaliya Jaleel. In the book, Khan presents a diverse group of Muslim women who have chosen to wear the hijab, explaining what it means to wear the hijab, and why some Muslim women -- Khan included -- choose not to do so. In its review, Kirkus
said: "Informative and genuine, the book offers much to learn about the settings and situations of hijab." Booklist
noted: "The women and girls the protagonist admires vary in profession, age, and race. They go about their lives with confidence and pride, choosing to style their hijabs according to circumstance or whimsy. An author’s note explains when and why some Muslim women choose to cover, or not. Cheerful, colorful images complement the affirming tone and message of this timely book." Politics & Prose will be selling copies of Khan's book at our event, but the program is free and no purchase is required.
