Social Media and Social Change
Cranbury Public Library

Tuesday, Jun. 27, 1:30pm-2:30pm
It can be argued that social media has seemingly accelerated social change. While countless protests, riots, marches, and rallies have led to historic political and systemic changes within societies, one might wonder what leads to sustained change within communities, both local and global. In this 1-hour conversation, we will review the article, Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not be Tweeted by Malcom Gladwell, who challenges the notion that social media tools can lead to real social change. We will discuss the power of social media, as well as the limitations, and highlight our shared predictions on how social change in the US might evolve over time.
