The Fiddle in America: A History and Demonstration
Sayreville Public Library

Monday, Oct. 29, 6:30PM
or call 732-727-0212.
Until the early twentieth century, the fiddle was the centerpiece of American folk music and folk culture. In this interactive session, Dr. Michael Backes explores the origins and history of American fiddle music—covering a range of styles and modes of expression—and raises along the way big questions about musical tradition and music making.

Sponsored by The Public Scholars Project , which brings the humanities to locations throughout our state, allowing participants to exchange ideas and explore challenging subjects with nuance and complexity. At NJCH, we believe in the power of the humanities to strengthen our communities and welcome you as a partner in bringing engaging humanities experiences to New Jersey residents.
