Census records are the most commonly used resource for genealogists. But each census was different! Some give us more information than others. Some are more difficult to interpret than others. Also important, is how the index for a census was produced. Not all indexes are created equal! While nearly every genealogist has used census records, frequently we do not get all of the information from them that we could. Before we all participate in the 2020 census, let us pause to review and consider those censuses that our ancestors completed.
