Teens meet monthly to conduct their business meeting and to help advise library staff on ways to improve library programs and services. Teen Advisory Committee application is required and visitors are welcome. For teens ages 12-18. The group meets the second Wednesday of every month.

Attention youth in grades 2-12! If you would play or would like to learn how to play chess, the Chess Master Club is just right for you. Pearl Bailey Library’s Teen Advisory members Chris Smith and Trent Sims will teach beginners "how to" play chess.

Teens ages 12-18 - come to the Pearl Bailey Library on the 4th Wednesday of each month for the Teen Urban Lit Book Club. Teens will discuss "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers. No registration is required.
Whaddya Know: Black History Trivia Contest for Teens

For the month of February, teens may participate in a Black History Trivia Contest. The participants try to answer trivia questions about Black History using suggested library research resources available at Main Street or online. The trivia questions are available at the Youth Services desk beginning February 1st and are due by February 28th. The teen who answers the most questions correctly by the deadline will receive a gift certificate worth $25.00 from a local vendor (To be determined).

Four-session course designed to teach students how to use the Internet. Students will learn searching techniques, how to use browsers/search engines, how to send and receive e-mail, and much more.
Learning on Laptops: Guide to Online Databases

Youth ages 8-18 can learn basic skills for using Newport News Public Library System's Online Databases, such as Find It Virginia, Mango Languages and other research sources. All participants must present their Library card and have a laptop registration form signed by a parent/guardian on file.
African-American History Jeopardy Trivia Contest

Youth ages 6-18 are invited to test their knowledge in African American History. Kids ages 6-11, or teens, ages 12-18 must partner with each other to form a team. Four teams of two will compete for a special prize and for the covenant title of Pearl Bailey Library’s African American History Jeopardy Trivia Champion. Registration is required. copies of the contest trivia questions will be available on Monday, February 1.
